Back out at sunrise for my last pre-marathon run along the Charles River. This morning there was a regatta between Notre Dame and North Eastern Universities. The dedicated and supportive cheer squad parents on the side lines and the bridge took me back to rowing days with the girls… thankfully Brisbane conditions are consistently better! The Boston Uni boat club looks a little more well-funded though!

I also watched 1 day to go to the marathon tick over… getting close!

A few weeks ago I’d been tipped off to an unofficial marathon event ‘Golden Strong’ – a golden retriever meetup at Boston Common. It was in honour of Spencer and Penny, two goldens that had been a feature on the course for the past 10 years since the bombing, holding ‘Boston Strong’ flags at the 3 mile mark.

The original idea was for 100 dogs to walk from the Common to the finish line… then last week they realised that 200 dogs had registered so it was confined to Boston Common… and about 400+ dogs showed up! There were so many happy runners, doggos, and their owners sharing pats and stories of their dogs. We met Maple, Logan, Odin, Catcher, Eddie, Otter, Bentley and so many others… I particularly loved Lily who had brought her ‘Woobie’ teddy along as well.

They arranged a mass group photo. Somehow all those dogs sat patiently for about 20 minutes. Such a well trained bunch of dogs. It was an absolute highlight of the week, and I hope it’s a Boston tradition that continues.

It now really is time to get off my feet and get prepared for tomorrow!

Love M and theGrady x
