As you slowly find your bearings in a place you start to see the little things. The snails were out on this drizzly morning, going about their business. They’re very cute, each with their own little style of home. I felt some connection that the one that appeared to have lost his… every run has taken about 50% longer because I can’t find my way back home! Love the dandelion clock… memories of hours in the backyard.
Our day was planned to head to my cousin Emma’s house in Halifax. It’s a long drive up the M1 for lunch in Lindley near Huddersfield in one of the kids lunch breaks, and then on to Emma’s place in Halifax. The stars of the show are Lola and Dilly… a pair of gorgeous and energetic cockapoos.
Emma’s place is in a tiny old village called Millbank. Their house was the old Vicarage – a beautiful large old stone place. They’ve had it for about 3 years, and it’s an amazing project that’s going to keep them busy for many more! Definitely nothing like this in Brisbane.
The views from the back of the house are stunning, looking over the fields and forest. The whole area is lush and green, there are blackberries along the roads, the dry stone walls that are a reminder of the depth of the heritage in these little villages. The photos from the back of the car just don’t do it justice!
It was so lovely to spend time with Emma’s kids. They were tiny when we came in 2013, so to chat to them as young adults and teenagers is one of the highlights of the trip. Lily has just finished college and taking a gap year, Sam is just starting college, and Ella is in early high school. They’re fabulous kids.

Lunch, a tour of the house, laughs over a cup of tea… and then it’s back down the M1 to head home. Such a lovely day with this part of our family 🙂
Love M & BB x
