It was a slow start this morning after our late night. The bonus of the such little light during the day is that we can sleep in, safe in the knowledge that we aren’t missing anything!
Visible stars suggested that it was going to be a clear morning, so we planned to head over to the mainland to the ‘Fjellheisen’ mountain cable car.
It’s about 3km from town, so we opted to walk over the bridge and enjoy the views of the city, the water and the mountains bathed in warm twilight.
It was nice to spend some time in the little suburban streets as well. The houses are small and seem to respect their surrounds. They’re different, and yet consistent in their form making the streets feel familiar and homely. Many remind me of childrens’ drawings, and I love that there are 4 colours… red, white, blue and yellow!
The cable car has been open since 1961, and clearly modernised since then! It takes about 5 minutes to climb the 421m to the top. Well worth it for the views!
We walked around to get different perspectives on the view, and to try and keep warm. -3 degrees plus wind keeps things a little fresh! Our attempts to build Olaf III were thwarted by snow so dry that it wouldn’t form a snowball.
Back in town, everything is still closed and so quiet. It became another afternoon of shopping for dinner at the Joker, before settling in for a nap and preparing for round 2 of our Northern Lights experience…
