We bumped out of Newbury St at sunrise to catch our early train to New York. The remnants of the marathon have been pulled down, and Boston was returning to normal.

One of the things it’s fascinated me is how easily sponsors and other brands have coexisted. Adidas is the major sponsor, although most of the running brands have had some reference to Boston. As a committed Brooks wearer I really like their advertising that references the course – ‘Left on Boylston, right into history. It’s your run. Brooks, Run Happy.’ Dunkin’ Donuts also deserve kudos for their respectful and smart ads…

The train trip took us back to 2011 when Andrew did this ride with the girls on his own. We were a little tidier, although still used the time to catch up on holiday memories via the blog. I still can’t quite believe Andrew toured NY and Boston with 7 & 11 year old girls on his own!

New York fascinates me, your arrive underground and then seem to travel underground forever before eventually popping out into the sunlight. It’s actually a pretty overwhelming way to arrive in a city. When we did find the sunlight we headed past local fire station for a highly recommended ‘Everything Bagel‘. There’s so many parts to this city that just feel like they’re straight out of a sitcom.

We’re staying with 77th Street near the Natural History Museum. It was a quick walk to get some fresh air at Central Park. It’s amazing how much spring has taken over in the last fortnight, so Central Park is filled with green leaves, spring flowers blooming and birdlife. Such a great asset to this bustling city.

The high rises frame the park. Years ago it would have been easier to forget they were there… now you can’t miss them!

With a couple of hours to wait for our room, we found wandering to the centre of the city, looking at the way the big brands have designed experiences in their flagship stores. Apple with amazing greenery and visual merchandising, Nike with a nod to Ted Lasso’s fictional football team Richmond, and Lego with very NY themed displays. There was no way I was missing an opportunity to hang out with w a doggo or the spring flowers 😂

A couple more memorable places from the trip with the girls… all the way to NY and all they wanted to see was m&m world 😂

Finishing the day with one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time at Red Farm – Asian inspired and incredibly fresh… so good!

Another 20 000 steps in the legs… so much for post-marathon rest!

Love M and theGrady x
