Today was our last day in Prague, and the last day of our trip.
Last night we decided that we would get up early to see the sunrise at Charles Bridge. At the end of a big trip watching a sunrise is no mean feat, made even more challenging by the thought of chilly Winter air. Despite a couple of protests (remember we have a teenager in tow on this trip!) we managed to rug up and get out.
I’ve always loved seeing a city wake up. There’s something fascinating about watching workers get on their way, watching cleaners make our cities beautiful and seeing bakers and coffee shops prepare for a busy day. There’s a feeling of positivity and promise in everyone that’s out at that time of the morning – it just makes me want to embrace the day and make the most of all it has to offer.
The actual sunrise was lost behind clouds, but it’s not often we get to spend this hour together as a family. It was very special to grab a treat from the bakery and reflect on our trip in the early morning light. Simple pleasures.
For the remainder of the day we decided to just enjoy the streets of Prague. The architecture is an amazing mix of gothic, baroque and art nouveau that some how fits together perfectly. The whole of the Old Town is heritage listed and the restoration in recent years has been done beautifully – a true respect for the history. I could wander these streets for days looking at the ornate facades and finding the little details that make every building unique and special.
Of course, the day had to close with a trip to the airport along with a few kilos more luggage, countless photos and plenty of memories of a beautiful city.
See you on the other side of the world!
Love M & theBunch xx
